About Me
Hello, everyone! My name is Darlene Norris, and I’m wife to Andrew, mom to Sarah, mom-in-law to Jared, step-mom to Greg, Chuck, Jenny, and Rachel, and granny to Taliesin, Shadrach, Kieran, Alric, Elise, Brody, and Nora!
Andrew and I live in the incredible Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Lots of snow in the winter, but we love it! Fishing, hunting, and hiking in the woods are the outdoor activities we enjoy most. Shoveling snow, not so much!
I’ve always loved fiber, in one form or another. Weaving, spinning, and quilting are my favorite activities.
My masterpiece is the wedding quilt I made for Sarah and Jared. A king-size double wedding ring quilt, hand quilted! They were married over three years before it was done. I told Sarah to enjoy it, because it’ll never happen again! Machine quilting is much faster, and I’m at the point in my life where I think I’ll send it out to be quilted if I make another big one again. It does look nice on their bed though, and she loves it.
I have discovered improvisational quilting, and I love it! The kitty in my blog header is my first attempt at this, and I think it came out pretty well! I was amazed at how easy it was. I feel like a whole new world has opened up to me.
An Ashford rigid heddle loom has come to live with me! I’m pretty excited about it. I sold my last floor loom this past spring because I thought I was done with weaving, but the bug has bitten me again. I’ve been happily weaving my way through my yarn stash since getting my new loom early in October.
Plus I’m dusting off my trusty old spinning wheel, an Ashford Traditional. She’s been with me for over 25 years now, which is hard to believe. She still works like a charm, though.
